Delta Set To Revive Moribund Industries, Says Ekiyor

By ANDREW IKEHI

Moribund for several years, there are strong indications that the Uzere Cassava Processing Factory Limited, and the Bendel Steel Structures Limited (BSSL), among other ailing industries in the state will soon resume full scale productions as the Delta State Government at the weekend said it has concluded plans to revitalize them.
While the Uzere Cassava Processing Factory will resume operation in the next two weeks, barring all unforeseen circumstance as reactivation work is 95 per cent completed, the Bendel Steel Structures (BSSL) Limited will resume operations anytime soon as government has embarked on its reactivation process, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chris Ekiyor has said.
The Commissioner who gave the assurance while inspecting the facilities at the Uzere Cassava processing Factory in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state, said that the renewed effort by the State Government in reviving some of the moribund industries in the state is part of the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s vision of opening up massive industrialization aimed at creating more jobs and thus; reducing poverty.

The Uzere Cassava Processing Factory when fully operational has the daily production capacity of 30 tons of Garri and Industrial Starch among other economic multiplying effects.
Admitting that not all the ailing industries in the state may be attended to by the present administration given the paucity of funds and other economic variables, the Commerce and Industry Commissioner noted that the choice for the few industries at present was done in view of their economic values to the ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ initiative of the present administration.
Essentially, Ekiyor explained, the state government is keen about the Uzere Cassava processing factory, the Bendel Steel Company Limited as well as the on-going construction of the four Fish Feed Mills which he noted would commence operation before the expiration of the present administration.
He said, “Agreed that this administration is almost winding up, we are at present concentrating on those things that are achievable within the few periods we have. Therefore, we are looking at factories that will add value to our Delta Beyond Oil initiative”.
Conducting the Commissioner and his team round some of the facilities at the factory, the project consultant, Mr. Adolphus Ojobo while assuring that the factory would be ready for full scale operation in the next two weeks, expressed confidence that when fully operational, the project will go a long way in boosting the Delta Beyond vision of the present administration.
