Ayodele Fayose
A
group,Ekiti Youth Vanguard, has expressed concerns over the protracted
trial of the case filed by the Ekiti-11 challenging the eligibility of
Governor Ayodele Fayose to contest in the June 21 governorship election.
The
group said endless complaints of bias against judges handling the case
portended a grave danger to the administration of justice in the state
and capable of undermining the nation’s justice system.
Reacting
to the reported refusal of Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi to continue
hearing the case over threats to his life and members of his family, the
EYV, in a statement by its chairman, Charles Fakunle, called on the
judiciary to be bold and unbiased.
“The
Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, was the first to handle the
case. Fayose complained that Justice Daramola was biased against him.
“The
case was transferred to Justice Abodunde, yet it was the same complaint
before it was transferred to Justice Ogunyemi, yet allegation of bias
is again being raised against the third judge.”
The
EYV called on the judiciary to be decisive in handling the case to
prevent anarchy and impunity by political leaders bent on running the
judiciary down.
On September 22, 2014
political thugs invaded the Ekti State High Court presided over by
Justice Ogunyemi to disrupt proceedings in the case filed by two members
of the Ekiti-11, Mr. Adeniyi Ajakaiye and Olufemi Ajayi.
The
invasion took place shortly after the judge refused an application to
set aside an order abridging the time for Fayose to file his defence in
the case.
