Nigerians’ll praise me when I leave- Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday boasted that based on the achievements of his administration across all sectors, Nigerians will begin to praise him when he leaves and another leader resumes office.
The President, who played host to a delegation of traditional rulers and leaders from Bayelsa State at his residence, noted that he was not surprised by the spate of criticisms which his administration has suffered in recent times.
President Jonathan added that people do not often give credit to great men when they are still in charge, saying he was very sure that when a new administration takes over and people make comparison, they will appreciate his efforts and give him his due credit.
The President said he won't be distracted by criticisms as he would continue to give his best to the nation.

He acknowledged the fact that leaders all over the world get more lambasted these days due to the effect and power of social media since people often use new inventions for the wrong reasons.
"These days, leaders all over the world get lambasted a lot and the effect of the social media has made it worse. There are some inventions that are not used for the right reasons.
“The social media that is supposed to be used for positive things is being used for something else. I don't expect praises now until I leave office. But I will do my best for our economy to continue to thrive despite the challenges in dwindling oil price and the security challenges.
“People don't often give credit when the man is still there. They often do it when he has left and another man is in charge. When they make comparison, they will begin see the great things the former man did.
“We will continue to thank Nigerians ‎for the opportunity given to us to serve and we will continue to do our best" the President said.
He thanked the delegation for their consistent support for his administration.
Speaking earlier, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, who led the delegation said they were in the State House to felicitate with President Jonathan and his family in the spirit of the festive season, while wishing him a victorious new year.
He reiterated the fact that Bayelsa people will continue to support the President.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the visit, Dickson said Bayelsa, the President's home state was peaceful and was in safe hands.
The governor also presented a Christmas card to the President on behalf of the state.
